processare

to try (in court), to prosecute

verb proh-chehs-SAH-reh Rare

Also means

to process (data)

Usage Note

Processare primarily means to put someone on trial — processare un imputato ('to try a defendant'). In computing and technical contexts it also means 'to process' data, a borrowing from English. It takes avere as auxiliary. The related noun is processo ('trial' or 'process'). A false friend for English speakers: processo does NOT mean 'procession'.

Examples

"L'imputato sarà processato il mese prossimo."

Natural Translation

The defendant will be tried next month.
