Also means
pretension
Usage Note
Pretesa can mean a legitimate claim or right (avanzare una pretesa, to put forward a claim) or an unwarranted expectation or conceit (che pretese!, what nerve!). The plural pretese is very common in the phrase senza pretese, meaning 'unpretentious' or 'modest'. Do not confuse with the English 'pretense' (= finzione in Italian).
Examples
"Ha molte pretese per il suo stipendio."
Natural Translation
He has many demands regarding his salary.
