Usage Note
Preda refers to an animal hunted by a predator or, figuratively, a victim or target. The phrase fare preda di means 'to fall prey to'. In preda a means 'in the grip of' (in preda al panico = in the grip of panic). The plural is prede. Note: the predator is il predatore; preda is always the hunted, not the hunter.
