Poltrona specifically denotes an upholstered armchair with padded arms, as opposed to sedia (a plain chair). In theatre and cinema it also means 'stall seat' (front orchestra seat). The related adjective pigro (lazy) shares no root, but colloquially poltrire means 'to laze about.'
