Usage Note
Polemizzare means to engage in public controversy or to argue contentiously, often in a political or journalistic context: polemizzare con i critici ('to argue with the critics'). It is slightly formal; in everyday speech litigare ('to quarrel') or discutere ('to argue') are more common. It takes avere as auxiliary and is always intransitive.
