plausibile

plausible

adjective plow-ZEE-bee-leh Rare

Origin: Latin plausibilis (deserving applause), from plaudere (to applaud).

Also means

credible

Usage Note

Plausibile means 'believable enough to be accepted as true' — a slightly stronger endorsement than possibile. Una scusa plausibile is a credible excuse. Its negative implausibile is also common. Invariable in gender; plural plausibili. Do not confuse with 'plausible' in the sense of apparently reasonable but possibly false — Italian plausibile leans positive.

Examples

"La sua spiegazione sembra plausibile."

Natural Translation
