Usage Note

Piovere is an impersonal verb used almost exclusively in the third person singular: piove (it's raining), pioveva (it was raining). In compound tenses the meteorological sense accepts both e' piovuto and ha piovuto, but figurative uses take only esserepiovono offerte (offers are pouring in).
