Usage Note
Pessimistico describes an outlook, statement, or assessment that anticipates the worst outcome — una visione pessimistica del futuro ('a pessimistic view of the future'). It can also appear in its variant form pessimista when used predicatively to describe a person (sono pessimista — 'I am pessimistic'). Feminine: pessimistica. Learners sometimes reach for the English-sounding pessimista as an adjective, which is correct but has a slightly different nuance (referring more to the person's habitual attitude).
