palese

obvious; evident; manifest

adjective PAH-leh-zeh Rare

Usage Note

Palese is a more formal synonym of ovvio or evidente. It is common in legal and journalistic language: rendere palese ('to make public/known'), in modo palese ('openly, manifestly'). Unlike ovvio, palese does not carry the sense of 'obviously true by logic' but rather 'visible, not hidden'. It does not change for gender: un errore palese, una bugia palese.

Examples

"La sua intenzione era palese a tutti."

Natural Translation

His intention was obvious to everyone.
