Usage Note
Moscone is the augmentative of mosca (fly) and has two main meanings: a large fly or blowfly (Calliphora species), and a flat-bottomed pedal boat used on Italian beaches (il moscone da spiaggia). The beach-pedalo sense is very common in Italian summer vocabulary. Plural i mosconi. Do not confuse with moschino (small midge).
