Insultare takes avere as its auxiliary and is transitive: ha insultato il giudice ('he insulted the judge'). The noun insulto is masculine. Do not confuse insultare with offendere, which is broader ('to offend' in any way, including unintentionally). Register: colloquial to neutral.
