imposizione

imposition

noun eem-poh-zee-TSYOH-neh Rare

Origin: From Latin impositio, from imponere (to impose).

Also means

taxation

Usage Note

Imposizione covers both the abstract sense of imposing one's will (un'imposizione inaccettabile = an unacceptable imposition) and fiscal taxation (imposizione fiscale = tax burden). The verb is imporre (to impose), which is irregular. Contrast with imposta (a specific tax, e.g. imposta sul reddito = income tax), which is more concrete.

Examples

"L'imposizione fiscale è aumentata quest'anno."

Natural Translation

The tax imposition has increased this year.
