impellente

urgent

adjective eem-pel-LEN-teh Rare

Origin: Latin impellere (to drive, compel)

Also means

pressing

Usage Note

Impellente describes a need or force so pressing it cannot be deferred — stronger than urgente and typically reserved for physical or emotional compulsion ('an overwhelming urge'). It does not change form between masculine and feminine (un bisogno impellente, una necessità impellente). In literary contexts it can also describe an irresistible push or drive.

Examples

"Sento un bisogno impellente di uscire."

Natural Translation

I feel an urgent need to go out.
