Usage Note

Idrante refers both to a street fire hydrant (idrante stradale) and to a firehose nozzle or water cannon used by police for crowd control (idrante antisommossa). It is masculine and its plural is idranti. Do not confuse with irrigatore (a garden sprinkler).
