Usage Note

Golfo refers both to a geographical inlet of the sea (il Golfo di Napoli) and, in modern usage, to the Persian Gulf region (il Golfo or i Paesi del Golfo). It is masculine: il golfo. Do not confuse with la baia ('bay'), which is typically smaller, or il porto ('harbor').

Examples

"La barca navigava nel golfo tranquillo."

Natural Translation
