Usage Note

Giudice is a common-gender noun: the same form applies to male and female judges, though la giudice is now accepted for a female judge. The plural is giudici. In everyday speech it also means 'judge' in a non-legal sense (essere un buon giudice del carattere = 'to be a good judge of character').
