fusione

fusion, merger

noun foo-ZYOH-neh Less Common

Origin: From Latin fusionem, from fundere (to pour, melt).

Also means

melting, blending

Usage Note

Fusione is feminine. In business it means a corporate merger (fusione aziendale); in physics and chemistry, fusione nucleare is nuclear fusion and punto di fusione is the melting point. In music and cuisine it describes a fusion style. The plural is regular: le fusioni. Do not confuse with fissione (fission) — the opposite nuclear process.

Examples

"La fusione tra le due aziende è stata approvata."
