Francese functions as both adjective (la cucina francese = French cuisine) and noun (un francese = a Frenchman, una francese = a Frenchwoman). It is invariable for gender — lo studente francese / la studentessa francese — and takes -i in the plural: i francesi. It also denotes the French language: parlo francese.
