Fiamma is the standard word for a flame or tongue of fire: le fiamme dell'incendio (the flames of the fire). Colloquially it also means an old flame or sweetheart: il mio primo amore, la mia fiamma — note the feminine gender. The plural is regular: fiamme. The phrase andare in fiamme means 'to burst into flames.'
