durante
during
preposition doo-RAHN-teh Common
Origin: from Latin 'durare' (to last)
Usage Note
Durante introduces a span of time and needs no following article: durante la guerra but durante l'estate. It cannot replace mentre ('while'), which links two clauses with verbs rather than a single noun.
Examples
"Dormo durante il viaggio."
Natural Translation
I sleep during the trip.
Literal Translation
I-sleep during the trip.
