noun DYAH-loh-goh Less Common

Origin: From Greek dialogos, 'conversation', from dia- + logos, 'word, speech'.

negotiation

Usage Note

Dialogo has an irregular plural: dialoghi (the -go / -ghi pattern preserves the hard 'g'). It is used both for a literary or dramatic dialogue and for political or diplomatic talks — aprire un dialogo means 'to open a dialogue (negotiation)'. The verb dialogare means 'to converse, to engage in dialogue'.
