Desktop is an invariable English loanword in Italian, always masculine and always the same in singular and plural: il desktop, i desktop. It is used both for a desktop computer (un desktop potente, 'a powerful desktop') and for the screen's desktop background. In formal Italian tech writing you may encounter the calque scrivania for the screen background, but desktop dominates in practice.
