dare

to give

verb DAH-reh Common

Usage Note

Dare is highly irregular: present do, dai, dà, diamo, date, danno; note the accent on (third-person singular) to distinguish it from the preposition da. It takes avere as auxiliary. The idiom darsi da fare means 'to get busy / to make an effort', and dare del tu means 'to address someone informally'.

Examples

To-me give-you your number?
