Usage Note
Croata is both an adjective and a noun referring to Croatia or a Croatian person — la lingua croata (the Croatian language), un croata (a Croatian man), una croata (a Croatian woman). Like other -a nationality adjectives, it is invariable in gender as an adjective but takes the article as a noun. The country is la Croazia.
