Contrarre is an irregular verb conjugated like trarre: present contraggo, contrai, contrae; past participle contratto. It takes avere as auxiliary. It means to enter into (a contract, marriage, debt) — contrarre un debito ('to incur a debt'), contrarre matrimonio ('to enter into marriage', highly formal). It also means to contract a disease — contrarre un'infezione.
