consistente

substantial

adjective kohn-see-STEHN-teh Less Common

Also means

firm

Usage Note

Consistente is a false friend: it usually means substantial, sizeable or solid, not 'consistent'. A somma consistente is a hefty sum; for English 'consistent' Italians prefer coerente. It is invariable for gender, plural consistenti.

Examples

"Hanno offerto uno sconto consistente."

Natural Translation

They offered a substantial discount.
