noun kohn-fee-DEN-tsah Rare
Origin: From Latin confidentia (trust, assurance).

intimacy
Usage Note
Confidenza is a significant false friend: it does NOT mean 'confidence' (self-assurance), which is fiducia or sicurezza. It means close familiarity or intimacy with a person: prendere confidenza con qualcuno (to become familiar with someone). Fare una confidenza means 'to share a secret or confidence' with someone. The adjective confidenziale means 'confidential'.
