condominio
apartment building
noun kon-doh-MEE-nyoh Rare
Origin: From Medieval Latin condominium, from con- (together) + dominium (ownership).
Also means
condominium
Usage Note
Condominio refers to both the physical multi-unit residential building and the legal co-ownership arrangement governing it. Italian apartment buildings are almost always condominiums by law; residents attend assemblee condominiali (owners' meetings) and pay spese condominiali (shared building costs). Do not confuse with condomino (the individual co-owner).
Examples
"Abitiamo in un condominio di dieci piani."
Natural Translation
We live in a ten-storey apartment building.
