Usage Note

Conciliazione can mean both a personal reconciliation between individuals and a formal legal settlement or mediation. In Italy, the conciliazione is an official alternative dispute resolution procedure. In religious history it is also the term for the Lateran Pacts of 1929 between Italy and the Holy See (la Conciliazione). The related verb is conciliare (to reconcile; also 'to promote' sleep: conciliare il sonno).
