complessivo

overall

adjective kom-pless-SEE-voh Less Common

Also means

total

Usage Note

Complessivo means taken as a whole, encompassing all parts — closer to 'overall' or 'aggregate' than to 'complex' (complesso), which is a false friend trap. Il costo complessivo is the total cost; la situazione complessiva is the overall situation. The adverb complessivamente means 'overall, in total'. Do not confuse with complesso (complex, difficult).

Examples

"Il costo complessivo è di mille euro."

Natural Translation

The overall cost is one thousand euros.
