Brodo is the base liquid of Italian cooking: brodo di pollo (chicken stock), brodo di carne (meat broth), brodo vegetale (vegetable broth). The idiom essere in un brodo di giuggiole ('to be over the moon') is common in informal speech. Its plural brodi is used when referring to different types.
