Usage Note
Benvenuto agrees in gender and number with the person greeted: benvenuta (f sg), benvenuti (m pl), benvenute (f pl). As a standalone greeting (Benvenuto!) it is equivalent to 'Welcome!' As an adjective it describes something desired or appreciated (un aiuto sempre benvenuto — 'help always welcome'). The noun il benvenuto means 'the welcome' (dare il benvenuto — to give a welcome).
