Usage Note

Avvento has two registers: in secular use it means 'the advent/arrival' of something new (l'avvento della democrazia); capitalised, Avvento is the liturgical season of Advent preceding Christmas. The word is almost always used in formal or elevated language; everyday Italian would use arrivo for a simple arrival.
