Usage Note

Ascrivere is a formal verb used to attribute something to a cause or person: ascrivere un merito a qualcuno (to credit someone with an achievement). In bureaucratic Italian it also means to register or enrol someone (ascrivere a un albo). It is conjugated like scrivere and takes avere as its auxiliary. The past participle is ascritto.
